Part 2 of a series on developing Destination 2040, the Metropolitan Planning Organization’s (MPO) next long-range transportation plan (LRTP). Destination 2040 will allocate funding to major transportation projects in the Boston region and guide the MPO’s capital investment programs and research studies. Part 1, “What’s your vision for transportation in the Boston region?”, presented the proposed vision for Destination 2040. On January 17, 2019, the MPO board agreed to the proposed vision.

At the December 15 meeting of the Boston Region MPO, board members voted to approve an amendment to the federal fiscal years (FFYs) 2017-21 Transportation Improvement Program (TIP).
On October 20, 2016, the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) completed their review of the State Transportation Improvement Program (STIP) and the MPO’s Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) for federal fiscal years (FFYs) 2017–21.
In September, the MPO received federal approval of its federal fiscal year (FFY) 2017 Unified Planning Work Program (UPWP), which it had endorsed in July.
In June/July 2016, The Boston Region MPO released several transportation planning documents for public review.
